In a hidden corner of MM Alam is Que Rico, easily Lahore’s most authentic Spanish/ Mediterranean experience. The food is exquisite, the staff well – versed in Spanish ways and customs, and the place beautiful. It definitely tops my list as the best fine dining experience Lahore has to offer.
Located just off main MM Alam, the outside of the restaurant is understated and classy; the downside of this, of course, is that, combined with its tucked away location, the location is very easy to miss. Once we did find it, however, cobbled stones led us to the entrance, sheltered with a beautiful green cloth awning – it honestly felt like a tiny piece of Spain right in our own MM Alam.
The interior of the restaurant is elegantly curated, with each piece chosen individually by the owner. The space is designed to give you a private dining experience, with lush, comfortable seating and gorgeous art or photography covering the walls, and each member occupying said space comes together to produce an area that is truly a treat to the eyes.
Que Rico offers a plethora of palettes, from authentic Spanish dishes (marked with a cute Spanish flag on their menu) to divine deserts, breakfast options, and cross – Mediterranean entrees. Whether you try their appetizers (or tapas, as they refer to them) or their entrees, the food is truly heavenly. The perfect blend of depth, pop and spice to each individual creation combines with stunning presentation to afford a truly fulfilling dining experience.
A side note here for the prices: Que Rico is a fine dining avenue, and this must be borne in mind; however, when compared to other, similar, restaurants, their pricing is reasonable, and more than justified by the quantity and quality of whatever anyone chooses to order. As can be expected, certain items (such as the lobster) are higher priced; most, however, are well within reasonable range. (Their menu, with prices, can be found on their Facebook page and website, by the way!)
The staff, comprised of both men and women, is well versed in Spanish food and customs; I was thoroughly impressed to see they pronounced authentic Spanish names with no hesitation, and knew precisely which dish to recommend based on each individual palette. They were polite, helpful, and courteous, without being overbearing as waitstaff can sometimes be. We were sitting in a very secluded corner, so sometimes response time was a little slow, but this is excusable thanks largely to their willingness to listen and help.
I should mention here that I had 3 children under 2 years old in my party when I visited, and the staff was understanding, patient and helpful despite the inevitable chaos that comes with babies and a toddler. Furthermore, we were celebrating a birthday, and the staff went above and beyond to make the occasion special. Dry ice bowls added a beautiful element to the presentation of the cake, and they volunteered to take pictures for us. It was truly refreshing to see waiters and a concierge so well – trained in handling all kinds of customers, and I was constantly pleasantly surprised during my dining experience.
Que Rico is the kind of place I would go to treat myself, because its such a pleasurable experience dining there. Every single element of the restaurant is perfectly and lovingly crafted, and even to someone as critical as me, that was obvious from the moment I stepped into the establishment right up until I got into my car. The food is delicious, the place beautiful, and the staff undeniably good at their jobs, and altogether, it offers a 5 star experience.
