Rekha is an epitome of grace and poise. She was only 14 years old when she entered the Indian Film Industry. She has carried herself so gracefully, that she can still give any woman a run for her money.
Marriage and Affair
She is one of the most talented actresses of Bollywood and has delivered some great performances but it’s not her professional life but her personal life that has always made buzz. All personal aspects of her life have always been a mystery. If a book on bollywood’s most famous affairs would be written then without any doubt Rekha and Amitabh affair will top the list. However, Bachchan always denied every linkup allegation. Later, she got married to Mumbai-based industrialist Mukesh Agarwal and his subsequent death made her a widower. But she has never stopped wearing sindoor- a traditional red cosmetic powder worn by married women indicating they are married.
Rekha’s first appearance in sindoor
The first time she was seen wearing a sindoor was at Neetu and Rishi Kapoor’s wedding. If reports are to be believed, she made a grand entrance donning the vermilion and clad in her signature over-the-top bridal style. The grand wedding was also attended by Amitabh and Jaya Bachan. By this time Amitabh had openly refuted to all allegations about his affair with Rekha. Eye brows were raised and Rekha was questioned about “ sindoor”. To which she very beautifully replied Rekha said, ” I was going there straight from a film shooting.. and I don’t worry about people’s reactions. By the way, I think it looks rather nice on me.. sindoor suits me”
Rekha’s Sindoor- A fashion statement
In 1982, at the Indian National Awards, she put rest to all the questions, doubts and allegations pertaining to her sindoor. She famously affirmed “”In the city I come from, it’s fashionable to wear sindoor.” Nonetheless, Rekha’s signature bridal kanjeevarams and that striking sindoor has been a grand fashion statement over the years. But the secret as to why she sports Vermillion is only upto Rekha’s sleeve.
